Soapmaking Bootcamp offers a fun weekend of learning about the art of soapmaking!  Get our most popular classes condensed over 3 days (Friday afternoon to Sunday morning).  Whether you want to get an in-depth look at soap making as a new hobby or make it a great girls getaway, this weekend will be all about learning, creativity and fun!

By the end of this weekend, you will leave with:
-Over 12 hours of instruction and hands on soap making
-The experience, knowledge & confidence to make cold process soap
-Three cold process soap recipes
-Four 10-bar batches (11 lbs) of cold process soap you made
-Copies of our handouts for each class
-Three silicone-lined wooden soap molds
-Information about supplies and equipment and where to get them
-Access to our ongoing support as you make soap at home

Itinerary

Friday 2 pm - 5 pm
Introduction to Cold Process Soapmaking (3 Hours)
Have you ever wondered how soap was made? Admire all those beautiful handmade soaps on social media? This first module will introduce you to the basics of soap making including lye safety.  The process will be demonstrated and then you will be supported as you make your own 10-bar batch of soap to take home with you (mold included).
During the workshop we will discuss:
-Basic chemistry of soapmaking
-Step by step Instructions
-Safety procedures
-List of necessary equipment and supplies
-Popular terms and definitions in soapmaking


Saturday 10 am - 1 pm 
Formulating Cold Process Soap (3 Hours)
In this module, we will delve into soap making in more detail by exploring how to formulate your own recipes.  Bring your laptop and learn how to use a lye calculator.  We will discuss how different oils impart different qualities in your soap.  Formulate and make your own 10-bar batch of soap to take home with you (mold included).
During the workshop we will discuss:
-Properties of various soapmaking Oils
-Recipe formulation
-Lye calculators
-Lye/water discounting


Saturday 2 pm - 5 pm 
Swirls, Swirls and More Swirls - Mastering Trace in Soapmaking (3 Hours)
Time to get fancy!  In this class you will learn how to control the thickness of your soap to achieve different designs.  You will divide your batch and add multiple colours.    Select a design from the multiple ones covered in class and make your own 10-bar batch of soap to take home with you (mold included).
During the workshop we will discuss:
-What is emulsification and trace and how to identify it
-A new recipe for making swirls in soap
-Numerous swirling techniques
-Tools used to make designs in soap
-Additives, Colorants, Essential Oils, and Fragrances


Sunday 10 am - 1 pm 
Advanced Techniques for Cold Process Soap (3 Hours)
Personalize your soap further by adding advanced features such as stamping, pencil lines, textured tops and more.  Design and make your own 10-bar batch of soap to take home with you.
During the workshop we will discuss:
-An assortment of advanced techniques
-Tools and supplies and where to get them
-Troubleshooting

 

Sunday 1 pm - 2 pm (1 Hour)
We will end the weekend with a Q and A / Tips and Tricks discussion over a light lunch (provided).  Use our commercial cutter for any batches you have made that are ready to cut and shop supplies or products.  As usual, we will end with a class pic where you can show off your creations!

Workshop Location:

This workshop is available for 4-8 people over the age of 18.   Select your desired date and purchase online.  You will receive an automated email with additional information.

Priority will be given to participants booking the entire weekend.  If seats are available, registrations will be accepted for individual workshops.  Please contact us if you would like to be put on a waiting list.

Workshop includes all materials needed to make your batch of soap.  Please have a long sleeved shirt with you to protect your arms, long pants and closed toe shoes. We will provide soap making masks, face shields, and gloves.

If you are registering for more than one person, please include their names  in the "Note to Seller" section.

Payment and Cancellation Policy

Your spot(s) are CONFIRMED once payment is received.  All bookings are non-refundable.

All booking and payments are made in advance and considered firm. We understand that events can happen though to change your schedule. If we are given notice 14 days prior to your workshop, we would be pleased to rebook you/your group to another date.  If someone from your group, at any time, is not available to come, a substitute person that you find, can take their place. No refunds are given for cancellations.

A minimum of 4 people is needed to run this workshop.  If you book and pay for less than 4 people, and no other bookings are received for your date, we will contact you to reschedule.  

We reserve the right to cancel/reschedule your event for any reason. We will work with you to reschedule the workshop.  If we are unable to reschedule, we will reimburse you for the cost of the workshop.  We are unable to reimburse you for any other costs you have incurred.

Covid Procedures

This workshop is available according to provincial guidelines and restrictions:

  • If a lockdown is implemented, you will be given the option to reschedule.
  • Covid policies and procedures may be in effect and based on number of "bubbles" attending.  Proof of vaccination and masking may be required.

In the event that proof of vaccination required: Pre-screening will take place when you arrive.  Event will be designed to enable social distancing.  Hand sanitizer will be provided throughout the event.  You may be asked at various times to sanitize your hands.  A hand washing station will also be available.  Masks may be required.  During the soap making portion of the experience, you will be given an N95 mask which is required for soap making.  You will also be given a face shield and nitrile gloves which are also required for soap making.

  1. You will need to provide your own transportation to and from Gridley's

  3. By registering for an event at Gridley's you agree to release Gridley's and its representatives from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, which may be sustained by you or any other person attending our events/location.
